New versus refurbished medical equipment

Refurbished equipment can extend a budget considerably, but it is not equally suitable across all product groups or all departments.

Where refurbished works well

Mechanically robust, long-lifecycle equipment — hospital beds, operating tables, autoclaves, some imaging and monitoring — often performs reliably after professional refurbishment.

Where to be careful

Products dependent on proprietary consumables, software licences or discontinued service support carry more risk. Confirm parts and consumable availability before committing.

What to ask about every unit

Manufacturer, model, approximate year, testing performed, parts replaced, included accessories, warranty terms, lead time and the current location of the unit.

Mixing both in one project

A common approach is refurbished for furniture and heavy equipment, new for monitoring, sterilization and anything consumable-dependent. Ask for both in one comparison.
