Medical consumables procurement guide
Consumable quotations are only comparable when the specification, packaging unit and volume are stated the same way by every supplier.
Specify, do not just name
"Examination gloves" is not a specification. Material, powder status, sterility, size distribution, thickness and standard reference all change the price.
Always state the packaging unit
Price per piece, per box, per carton and per pallet are frequently confused between offers. Fix the unit in the enquiry and require quotations in that unit.
Plan volume before price
Annual consumption estimates unlock better pricing than repeated small orders, and allow scheduled resupply that protects against stock-outs.
Decide on substitution rules up front
State whether equivalent brands are acceptable. This prevents delays when a specific brand is unavailable at the required volume.
